About Our Coffee

Karma

Our roaster is Coffee Emporium, Cincinnati's only artisanal roaster.

All of our coffee is organic, direct trade and shade grown.

Drinking organic coffee and espresso is important to avoid the huge amounts of chemical fertilizers and pesticides used on factory farms, which are especially toxic with how coffee beans are roasted and brewed.

Direct trade means that there is NO middleman taking any profit from the local farmer (fair trade merely prevents the middleman from taking advantage of the farmer). Coffee Emporium visits the farms from which they purchase coffee and maintain personal relationships with them all. In this way, Om Cafe ensures that money from coffee supports families rather than corporations.

In its natural state, all coffee is shade grown. Coffee is a shade plant. However, industrial farms clear cut rainforests (and use fertilizers and pesticides) to maximize yield per acre. This deforestation increases greenhouse gasses and damaging runoff. Moreover, growing coffee in the full sun changes the nature of the bean and your coffee drinking experience--no one knows exactly how, but you will feel the difference with a fruit true to its essence.

The Om Blend is the base of all our coffee and comes equally from:

El Salvador, where the coffee is grown on a small cooperative farm; half of these beans are roasted light the other half are roasted dark.

India, a Jasmine bean grown on an all female cooperative farm that is supported by a San Diego feminist coalition. These beans are roasted dark.

Our coffee consequently blends masculine and feminine, East and West, light and dark with a deep, rich flavor that is never bitter or acidic.
